Barley – Suggested crop setting for Flagship 50, 40, 30, 20, and 10 series Axial Flow.

Suggested initial Crop Settings

Concaves: Use Large Wire Concaves. If additional threshing is required, a small wire concave can be used in #1 right position. (Small wire concaves can be used in drought low yielding barley).

Grates: Use Skip Wire Modules.

Rotor Configuration: Recommend standard rotor rasp bar configuration. Use of normal AFX rotor with 4 straight bars, and 8 spike rasp bars on rear of rotor. If straw is dry and brittle and causing high sieve loads, the straight bars can be taken off and replaced with rasp bars. See Note*

Vanes: The operator manual calls for vanes in the slow position. An alternate method would be to leave the front vanes in the normal position, and place the back 4 vanes in the slow position. If there are excessive sieve loads with brittle straw, vanes can all be placed back to mid or normal position. See Note*

Rotor Speed: 750 RPM

Concave Clearance: 17 to 20 mm. OR – 19-24 mm concave settings for high bushel and some malt barley if you need to keep the beard on.

Pre Sieve: Using 1 and 1/8 sieve. Use setting of 5 mm (thickness of seed).

Chaffer Sieve: (Top) If using a 1 and 1/8 grain sieve, setting is about 15 mm. Maybe up to 17mm. (If using 1 5/8 closz slat sieve, setting is about 13 mm)

Shoe Sieve: (Bottom) Using 1 and 1/8 grain sieve, setting is about 13 mm.

Fan Speed: 850 to 950 Rpm

Chopper: Use high speed for chopping and spreading. Even If windrowing with the stationary knives disengaged, it may still be good idea to run chopper in high, due to larger volumes of straw associated with good barley.
